MIKE NUDGES IT ON THE LAST Mike becomes an outside bet for the Butlers Open this Summer.
A hopeless eleven on the first did not bode well for Mike's round, but back-to-back pars put him in with a chance and it became a Mike/Tom duel over the first half. Tom was displaying some amazing power with his irons and with improved accuracy, he was becoming a threat. This was demonstrated on the seventh, where he had a small put for birdie giving hime a two point lead. Mike parred the eighth, but was overhtaken by Dave who cracked a birdie-par finish to the first eight. A good start to the back nine and Dave was taking control. Mike was steady for second place, but Tom was fading fast. However, Gavin was the dark horse and started to get in the frame, as Dave and Mike had miserable finishes, Dave still looked good to take the session, but one point over the last three let Mike in with a two-pointer at the last.
