- MIKE WAS SHOWING FATIGUE AT THE END OF HIS SHIFT
A classic start to the matchplay season with four games all going to the last hole. Russell and Geoff had the closest match whith neither player managing more than a one-hole lead and resulting in probably the tightest draw ever seen on a Baxter Saturday. Dave and Mike also had a real humdinger with Mike managing to stay one-hole ahead in spite of a sizzling seven-hole stretch by Dave, in which he scored four pars and a birdie. Mike took the turn one-up after a four-hole stretch covered in one under par. From here, both players struggled for form with Dave collapsing near the end to give Mike a two-and-one victory.
Con and Alan took it to the wire, but Alan ended two up. A blobless round, featuring 14 holes in bogie or better by Alan contrasted with up-and-down round featuring a lost ball and a mistaken touch of the ball. The only two players off form for the day were opponents Gavin and Tony. Gavin was three up after three but hit six blobs during the rest of the round. A mere four blobs from Tony gave him the match two-and-one.
The Monthly Medal was one of the tightest ever, with four players within a shot of each other. Mike took the turn three under net-par, but after eleven holes he struggled badly and was lucky to finish blobless. With the pack chasing, he managed to beat Russell on countback on net two-over. The Bruvs finished level on net three-over.
