Birdy for the second week i n a row
although his attendance record this season has been
poor and he was smarting from two matchplay defeaqts in a row,
Con was still able to put on a scintilating display of gutsy
golf to make it a 67% birdie record for the season's start and
win both his matchplay and the monthly medal. In spite of some
terrible efforts with the driver, early in the round, he was
able to hang on and work on his swing moulding it into an explosive
straight-at-the-green rocket. Five pars and a birdie gave him
a one-over net total to take the medal from Al by one point.
By contrast, Alan only managed the one par in his round, but
three double-bogies on the way out was the worst he could do,
proving that consistency is the key. Dave was almost as good,
but had two extra doubles. Between them, the boys tied on 14
holes, Alan winning the match two and one Mike continued to struggle
with his swing and was hitting all over the course. However,
he managed to hold on for a respectable 31 points. Tony and Gavin
could not reproduce their recent form and scored three big blobs
apiece to leave them out of the running.
