RECORD, Con arrived fired up and with all guns blazing. Turning with a 23 point 39 and five pars under
his belt, including the mighty fifth and sixth he hit a four
point birdie to average 2.7 points per hole. Two more points
on eleven left him seven bogies away from a 78!
- Pressure? Surely not!! The pressuremeister was stuffing himself and still salivating at the thought of the next two par-threes, temptingly waiting on a plate like a four-star dessert. Unfortunately they turned out to be like the After-Eight served up to Mr. Kerosene in "The Meaning Of Life". Thirteen shots and two lost-balls later, Con was left reeling, his gizzards peppering the 14th fairway as he topped the feast with a further double bogie on 14.
- The record was gone, but there was pride at stake. Like the last twitch of early morning road-kill, our hero fired back-to-back pars, missing a birdie on 14 by an inch or two. However, it was all over bar the shouting. A spent force, he staggered to a double-seven finish, five shots adrift of Dave's record.
- In the matchplay, neither Mike nor Geoff could find any form, but double-eights over six and seven threw it away for Geoff and left Mike the victor two and one.
