- The Baxter Boys were down to three for the final showdown
of the season, with Con Lazing in bed and Mike sadly called
away due to family illness, but what thrills were in store as
Dave and the Bruvs lined up on the first tee.
- The front nine included 10 pars and a fantastic birdie (0
putts) from Alan on the 4th. Dave then achieved a long held ambition
by cracking the 8th and were talking driving the green here!!
The threesome put together a mighty 61 points with Dave on
38 shots(24 points) despite a new handicap of 19.

- On the turn, Dave was two up against Geoff in the matchplay,
which was to increase to plus 4 by the 13th. despite Dave being
on his 'Roll of the Season', geoff fought on strongly and it
was back to 2 up after 15. The 16th saw the end of the matchplay
dramas with Dave managing a rare win, but hang on! No-one had
noticed Alan's score!!

- Alan had approached the 17th with net 57 on his card - only
three behind Dave's 54. Dave tees off, its a nightmare. The 17th
claims another victim!

- On the 18th and its Dave 60 against Alan's 61.

- Three great drives - a momen's confusion but Dave and Alan
are both on the Green for three - Oh my God! The flag's on the
upper slope, thi week. Alan misses his second putt and there's
a chance of glory for Dave, but wow! that hole's along way away.

- Dave gets out his compass and protractor with a million calculations
running through what's left of his brain.

- And then, suddenly it's over - surely Dave's putt of the
season - a cry of triumph that can be heard over the hme counties
and a 'Baxter Boys' course record of 82 in the bag. Heads turn
all over 'The Valley' and the trophy is heading back to its rightful
home on the mantlepiece in Hendon, which Barbara has been lovingly
decorating all Summer with this very moment in mind! (if Alan
ever finds the Tesco bag!)

- With only the minor trophies at stake in August (Menorcan
Open etc.) it's down to Summer training and focussing on the
mental challenges ahead if the Dave/Alan stranglehold on the
Trophy of Trophies is to be broken during the new season starting
August 31st.
