Once again, Alan showed that he is the man to rise
to the occasion. Completely outplayed during the mid-week friendlies,
he made the scores when it counted, to take the Match-play two
and one. Once again, Mike was thwarted as he took the runner-up
position in the Summer tournaments.
It was the 4t, 5th & 6th that did it. Three
bad holes in a row and Mike was three down. He battled hard and
got within one hole and three to go, but a disaster at 16 meant
that he needed to win the next in order to stay alive. As it
happened, his bogie was only enough to tie and give Alan the
match two and one.
With most of the Baxter boys away during the quiet
August month, there have been some interesting scores set up
at Brent Valley which has now been designated as Baxter's home
course. The new season starts at 7.00 a.m. on Saturday September
the 1st with the August monthly medal.
