Saturday 14th July
PERIVALE
JULY MEDAL & Matchplay round 1

GEOFF WINS JULY MEDAL
Mike beats Tony in Play-off for Matchplay. Steve and Alan go through

Geoff gets a lesson from the Master

With two of the qualifying matches going down to the wire, two record attempts faltering on the home stretch and three players within a stroke of winning the July medal, Saturday produced excitement worthy of the last day of the Ryder Cup.

Geoff took the medal, but went home bemoaning what might have been. Three pars and a gross score of thirty with two holes to go and the record was on. A chip on to the green on the eigth, missed the green completely and resulted in a triple bogie. Bogie on nine and the score was 42 with a net 32 for the medal.

Mike had a poor start to the round with two double bogies, but three pars in a row and a birdie on seven put him in contention. A missed put on eight left him with birdie for the record. His fifteen foot attempt hopped out of the hole and left him with a tricky shot back which he missed. 41, net 33 turned him into this week's nearly man.

Alan played a steady round with three doubles and three parsto score 43 and tie Mike for second with net 33. However, he managed to come from behind and beat Dave to win through to the semis in the matchplay.

Steve got off to a good start, but faltered towards the end. There was some confusion about his handicap, but even after an adjustment was made, he managed to better Con on the last to book his place in the semis.

Tony put up a spirited display, knocking in some sensational puts to force Mike into a play off. Mike needed to equal his personal best and the par the tenth in order to win through.

The Bruvs could meet in the final, if they win their semis, however Mike and Steve look like providing some stiff opposition.
