The appearance of a brand
new blue Ben Sayers carry-bag on the first tee, is beginning
to send an ominous warning to the Baxter boys. Since purchasing
said bag, Mike's fortunes have changed. No startling fireworks,
but some workmanlike golf that has seen all-comers stumbling
by the wayside. In Tunisia it was Steve's 52nd hole collapse
in the MVP trophy or Dave's demise after losing the play-off
in the Doberman. On Saturday it was Con's misjudgement from the
fringe of the third after a double par opening and Geoff's lack
of direction after a brilliant birdie second.
Con's double par certainly
set the opening pace on Saturday, with Dave one stroke behind.
Mike's par on three saw a three-wayer, but he soon edged ahead
by one on the fourth. Nothing happened on the temp fifth, but
the usual drama on six ending with Mike still one up, with Tony
nudging out Dave.
For the third week runnning,
Mike saw disaster on seven, butthis time it was Tony who took
advantage with a well-timed par to streak two up.
Both Con and Mike parred
on eight to pull alongside for a three-way battle on the last.
Mike held his nerve through some tricky stuff, whilst the other
two took 21 strokes between them.
With eleven weeks of the
season gone, only three players have managed to get five Stableord
scores on the board. One more half-decent score and Steve looks
to have it sew up. People are going to have to par the sixth,
if they want to take the low-score from Con.
