CON WINS IT AT THE DEATH
DAVE FADES OVER LAST THREE
In spite of his advancing years, golfing groupies still flock round El Presidente
Bogie, Par, Birdie! Dave was off to a lightning start, but Alan overcame his double bogie start and started to match him. With Mike already four back and Geoff and Tony reeling seven shots adrift, only Con stood a chance. It was Con who held on, matching Dave's five on the fourth as Alan slipped away.
The par three fifth and the Dyke boys scored their familiar pars. Dave faltered with a five and things started to get interesting, especially as Con and Dave sprinted away on the sixth.
They both double bogied the seventh, but Con notched up a par on eight to move alongside the leader. Face to face they moved up to the last with the September medal beckoning. When it comes to pressure there is one man who likes to eat it in copious quantities and that man is .... Con winner by two!
With the handicaps closer than they have ever been, things are looking ominous for the Belgian Tour. Con - a Wellinton or Napoleon? Two weeks to go .....
