FORT BAXTER SALUTES ERIC THE EEL
Birdie start gets Steve of to a flyer
Baxter technology produces Olympic class performance from Steve
One week of the Olympics gone and the Baxter boys were showing the strain. Bleary eyed, hoarse and overweight, the late nights, hysterical cheering and copious plates of dingo stew washed down with pints of the amber nectar had transformed them from the finely honed athletes of yesteryear into a rag-bag of couch potatoes desperate to atone for their sins.
With the cries of "E-ric! E-ric! " ringing in their ears, they had found inspiration from a most unlikey quarter. As the lifeguards edged nervously towards the edge of the pool, Eric the Eel was within sight of the 100 metres finishing line, but sinking like a stone. The smell of the chlorine, the roar of the crowd spurred him on to within seven seconds of the world record ............. for 200 metres.

Surely this was the way forward for Fortbaxter. Mike was in no shape for a good round, as he had spent the night forging eight passports for Equatorial New Guinnea, along with the necessary birth certificates. Con was absent, schmoozing with the High Commisioner. Dave was registering the rights for their new Olympic Anthem. Tony was testing out his newly designed crocodile resitant wet suit! Steve had already snapped up the video rights. Things were moving ... these were no longer the Saturday morning hackers of old, but the nucleus of a fine team of Olympic Prospects.

From the very first hole, Steve proved that he was the man in form. The guys at the Dyke electrical and engineering research facility had fitted him up with their latest Gizmo - "The Fort Baxter Attitude Adjuster" Kapow! One notch on the dial and Steve was in with a birdie.
No-one had a chance, until the sixth, when against the advice of Baxter Eggheads, he turned the dial to eleven! Suddenly, the pack started to threaten.

Fortunately, sanity prevailed and he nudged ahead again and held on for a comfortable two point win from Alan. Early days in the F.B. preparation for Athens, but the gauntlet has been thrown down. Young Tom looks to be in the lead in the Winter Stableford, but Alan looks good for the Low Score.

Next week - The September Medal!
