- ALAN IN THE SADDLE
- .......but Con makes a charge
-
- Alan prepares for a bit
of post match relaxation.
|
- Dedication or desparation? Driving overnight
from the far side of Ireland, Con was waiting to greet the participants
of the third round of the Winter Stableford. Some were amazed
by this gesture of total dedication, but others saw it as a desparate
effort to gain an easy Baxter victory that would ease the pain
of his 5-2 drubbing on the Irish tour. ( see below )
- A par-bogie-bogie-par start put him well
in contention, as Mike stumbled and then staggered after a double
par start to fall two behind at four.
- Alan's triple bogie first put him out
of the frame, but two pars put him alongside last week's winner
Tom and only one behind Mike and Dave in second.
- Some mediocre scoring on the next two
holes, with no real disasters and the home straight was reached
with three separating the field. Con was still leading, but Alan,
Mike and Tom were only one behind, with Geoff and Tony one more
back.
- On the seventh, pars from Alan and Dave,
a poor quadruple from Geoff and sixes from Mike Steve and Tom
changed the picture completely. Alan and Con were now leading
with Tom one behind. Mike, Dave and Tony were still in it one
more behind.
- Mike parred the eight and only Con and
Steve made bogie. One to go - one in it: Con from Mike and Alan.
At last - after a week of last stretch collapses, Con had his
chance. The man who eats pressure for breakfast could show the
world that he hadn't lost it.
- Six shots later, Alan was sitting on seventeen
points - Con managed to scramble a double bogie and a share of
the spoils. A return to form? The jury is still out!

- result from Ireland
- CON MISSES HIS PRESSUREFLAKES
- Con 2 wins 5 losses
- Sir Harold of Londonderry 5 wins 2 losses
-
- Extract from e-mail report sent from Boston
U.S.A.
-
- In addition Harold wins the All Ireland
Aggregate Championships by a total of 26 shots over the sevn
rounds. Unbelievable!!!!
- Con still cannot believe he finished 9,9,9
at Royal Portrush, but he did follow it up with a close of 8,7,8
one other day. The big question is .... DID THE PRESSURE GET
TO HIM?
-
- Harold is still awaiting approval of his
application for U.S. membership in Fort Baxter. Con vowsto try
to block it, seems like those Irish eyes are not smiling ( I
know I'm gonna pay for this) .......
