WINTER STABLEFORD

YOUNG SPARKS SETS THE COURSE ALIGHT
Twenty-three pointer stuns the big boys

Baxter boys get in some extra practise after young Tom takes them to the cleaners
Tom's image took a double whammy last week, as he returned to Baxter action with a stunning twenty three shot Stableford to open his Winter campaign. First, there was the rumour that ,instead of spending his Summer hols chasing women and raving into the early hours, he had been studiously polishing up his golf game. Secondly, his score was so outstanding that he was cut a full two shots, starting the season with an old man's handicap!
Unlike last week, a few pars were scored, including four fours on the easy third. By this stage, Tom was up and running with Alan a shot behind. He faltered on the fourth, no doubt stunned by dad's amazing four pointer. Alan had moved alongside with Dave a shot off. A good par put Dave into a three way tie after five, but, as usual, the sixth provided the day's drama. A great five from Tom gave him a three point advantage, as the other two blobbed. Tony had moved quietly to within a shot of second place.
Another family four poiner came on the seventh putting tom five shots clear of Dave, who slipped on eight, as Tony moved up to Alan in second.
Another four ponter on the last, this time from Tony who finished second with a good nineteen points. However, Tom's secret was out. All those early nights and hours of pratice in the sweltering Greek sunshine, whilst his mates were sleeping off hangovers, were worthwhile: a new Fort Baxter legend is born!

FORT BAXTER GOES TWO DOWN IN IRELAND
Meanwhile, over in Ireland, Con was finding his true genius .... but only occasionally!
In a dour mano-a-mano tusstle against the self-styled Harold Duke of Londonderry (U.S.A.)
over the tough Links courses, Con threw away the chance to tie the series by finishing with an "Inverse Devil" ( 9,9,9). With six more rounds to come, a full exorcism seems to be in order! A detailed report is promised.
