The first Fort Baxter Open, and the boys knew they had a fight on their hands. Baxter Pride shone brightly on the first tee, as they prepared for the onslaught of the one overseas visitor: John Bagshaw the Standish Stallion from "oop North"! Some nervy first tee-offs but Geoff's par put him ahead. Con's below average six put him six shots better than the previous week, but a par on the second gave him a fourth share of second place, as John's par served notice that he was up for it. Dave's par continued his recent form and put him one up. A par on the third from Mike, put him into second, whilst Tony's par made it four on third. Dave notched up yet another par to stay one ahead. A steady five on four put Mike ahead, as Dave faltered with a seven. One stroke covered the first four. Pars from Geoff and Dave changed the picture, yet again Mike and Dave one ahead of Geoff and John. Intense pressure on the sixth, as Con saw his chance of getting into the frame evaporate with a missed put. Dave's five put him back into the lead. John's par on the seventh made him the big challenger one shot behind leader Dave. A fantastic eighth saw Con moving back with a chip-in for birdie. John and Dave, horns locked, showing no weakness both got their pars. It was down to the wire. Alan did some last minute face-saving by parring the last two, the rest struggled in the wind. However, it was John who struggled least. His six was two better than Dave, as he sneaked a win on the last. Dave, all but sealed his Summer Stableford championship, but Alan moved one clear of the pack in the Low-Score.
