MIKE CATCHES GEOFF WITH 3-PAR CHARGE FOUR SHOTS OFF THE LEAD AFTER THREE AND THE MIKE CATCHES FIRE WITH FOUR PARS ON THE LAST SIX HOLES TO TIE GEOFF IN A LOW SCORE BONANZA

Two shots clear after two and Tony looked as if he was finding the form that had made him the man to beat this season. Languishing at the back of the pack were Dave ( three adrift) and Mike ( four off) and it looked like Geoff and Alan would be the ones to have a chance of a challenge. However, it was one of those rare Baxter Saturdays when strong finishing was to set the course alight! The first big hole was the tricky fourth where both Mike and Geoff managed to score three. A double bunker shot on the fifth set Mike back again, but pars for Dave and Geoff gave hope as they lined up on the sixth tee. Two good woods and a great chip set Mike up for a chance of a rare par, but the pressure got to him and he settled for five. An eight for Tony meant that Mike had gained three and the others two. Three holes to go and it was Geoff two in the lead from Tony and Dave. A par from Mike and a slip from Geoff and now the lead was one, with Tony, Mike and Dave all with a chance of catching up. Another par from Mike, but this was matched by Dave and Geoff setting up a nailbiting finish. Solid sixes from Dave andd Geoff, but Mike's third par in a row made it a tie and one of the best scoring days of the year. The top three averaging better than 19 points.

and Alan hit the road for the London-Brighton Bike Bonanza.
