Man-in-form Geoff may have been forgiven
for thinking that the fates were against him, when he staggered
to an opening eight on the easy first. Tony must have thought
that the golfing Gods were smiling dwn on him,as he picked up
the hole with a poor seven. However, Geoff picked up his fourth
second hole Par of the year to even the score and then moved
ahead with a bogie third.
Tony used his one shot advantage on the
fourth to make it level and provide the prospect of a cliff hanger,
but then Geoff unleashed his full power to go three up with two
to go. A win on the eight meant that Tony was still in the hunt,
going into next week's second half with a two shot deficit.
Elsewhere , things were tight with one
point splitting the four best scores. Three pars in a row and
a massive 14 points for the first five holes gave Dave a chance
of a record, but the sixth once again tok its toll as he stumbled
to a ten. Mike, who has yet to beat seven on this hole was within
90 yards of the pin after two. He crawled off, seven shots later,
but managed to score eight points over the last three holes to
move his Stableford score slightly ahead.
