Driving rain, howling winds,
the greens flooding. Everywhere there are golfers running back
to the club house, as the Baxter boys stroll up to the first
tee. As everyone shelters from the elements, Geoff Mike and Tony
proceed to finish the first two holes with only one shot above
par between them. The clouds part and brilliant sunshine beams
down on our heroes. All is right with the world.
In the big match, Mike goes par,
par but is only one in the lead after two. He then misses a two-footer
on the third and three puts the fourth to find himself one down.
On the fifth, Geoff sinks his par and Mike resists the pressure
to sink a ten footer to stay one down.
A wild tee shot into the ditch
starts Mike's downward spiral towards an eight and Geoff makes
a brilliant six after chipping from down in the ditch onto the
bridge. Nearly in the ditch again after slicing his tee shot,
Geoff finds a safe position and makes a remarkable recovery to
make five and win the hole by wirtue of his given shot on this
hole.
Mike wins the next two holes,
but it is too late as Geoff becomes the first through to the
semis. A more consistent Tony builds on a great birdie on the
second to notch up an impressive 20 pointer.
