MIKE HANGS ON
FOUR PLAYERS WITHIN ONE POINT
MIKE WAS SECRETLY MOST HAPPY TO WIN THE MAN OF THE YEAR TROPHY

The final match of the 2006 season, with the Matchplay Trophy still in the balance. Dave got off to a disastrous start with a niner on one and a 30 yard drive which bounced off the fence. He then started a terrific comeback and managed to peg back Con, who was off to another flying start. Turning in 20 points and then hitting par on ten Con pulled into a three point lead and then hit a slump. Two points over the next four holes and Dave was back on level terms. Sadly for Dave, it was his turn to hit the skids as he too scored two over four giving Con a three-and-one victory and the title. Tom made a welcome return to golf with four nice pars, but he proved to be too rusty for Tony, who won their double match three-and-one. Another 32 pointer under his belt and some steady play sets Tony up nicely for the new season. His eleven holes in bogie or better was three better than Tom's performance and showed the kind of consistency that he has been looking for.

After a poor start to the year, Mike rediscovered his form and posted a superb 38 pointer. With two blobs under his belt by ten, he finally ditched his driver resulting in a tasty eight-par total and a cut to 19. Twelve points over the last five holes enabled him to overtake Gavin and win by five.

Tom has opted out of this year's matchplay and will not be playing next week, so we have four matches to kick off the season.

New rules for the Stableford Averages competition:

* Competitors must play a minimum of 26 matches to qualify.

* The final average of qualifiers will be adjusted. The number of matches played by the qualifier with the lowest attendance will be the number of scores posted by each player.
