GAVIN TAKES THE LEAD
Three strokes cover top five in medal thriller
THE SEARCH WAS ON TO FIND A REPLACEMENT FOR MR. FRANKLYN
A tremendous battle for the November medal with Dave looking good, as he fought off the challenge of each of the other five players. At the end of the day, it was a battle of the blobs, as the opposition ruined good golf with massive blobs, putting them way back in the scoring. Alan was the biggest loser, with three big blobs adding ten over net par, putting him out of the hunt early on. Mike scored well with five pars and eight bogies, but his two blobs totalled six over net par. Dave had just the one blob, but found pars hard to come by. In the end, it was Gavin who avoided big disasters to win the medal with 73 points.
The two matches were both classics. Dave looked good with dormi three. He went one over net for the last three, but two pars from Geoff gave him a well earned draw, Mike just managed to stay ahead of Al in the other match which climaxed on the seventeenth. Mike's par pressured Al into a nine and a two hole loss.
Early on in the game, Dave was the big leader, battling it out with Russ, who was alongside him from six to eight. Gavin was just edging into contention, rarely a point adrift from the sixth onward. A blob on ten halted Russell's blobless run, but saw him top of the table with 43, giving Con a six-hole target nexy week. With three holes to go, Russ and Gavin were all square. Twenty two shots from Russ dumped him back into fifth, as three bogies from Gavin gave him a one-shot victory from fast finishing Mike who leaped into second with two last pars.
