- GEOFF WOULD STRIKE FEAR IN THE HEARTS OF HIS OPPONENTS
- A rare par on the tricky first and Geoff was off to a fine start. A horrible second for everyone, with Mike and Tom the only players to score at least a doouble bogie. Pars from Mike and Alan on the next and then it was a four-way tie after four holes. It was here that Geoff struck the killer blow with two birdies and a par over four holes to take a clear lead at the half-way mark. With five games being played, it was only the Dave/Gavin match that was close. The 13th was once agin the turning point, as the boys shared eleven pars over the next three holes. Geoff had seen off Tom, who was one hole away from losing to Russ. Dave was one hole away from beating Gavin by five and it looked all over in the other two matches, as Geoff was dormi three against Al, who had the same margin over Russ. With the tee way back on sixteen, Russ was the only player to get a bogie, giving him slim hope of a draw. Geoff's six gave Al hope and with a par on the next, Al was a hole away from a great draw, with victory against Russ under his belt. A final six from Geoff gave Al a draw from dormi four. A great day's golf, with Dave scoring a respectable 33 points and only managing fifth place. Mike had five pars and just the one blob, but was only able to finish fourth, whilst Russ scored his fifth best round of the year to take third. Al's second on countback was the result of six pars and nine bogies, a tremendously solid 36 points. With 34 points and three holes to go from Geoff, he should have been looking at something really special, but a poor finish resulted in just 36 points, which equals the best this season. Overall, he must have been delighted with two birdies, four pars and six bogies.
