THERE WAS A TIME WHEN MIKE CONSIDERED GIVING UP GOLF
There was much optimism as Fort Baxter returned to Ruislip for the start of the Autumn season. Unfortunately, that optimism seemed somewhat misplaced, as the first group all picked up for ten on the second hole. The muddy ground and the long rough made it heavy going for a second week running. However, it was Gavin who showed that there was stilll some good golf to play, as he started to hit a string of net birdies and streak away from the pack. Mike had lead for the first few holes, going three up against Tom over the first three holes, but with a six on the par three he finished the sixth 4 net strokes behind Gavin who went five up against Geoff. At the turn, Gavin's lead had been cut to one by Mike, who was three up against Tom. Dave wa a further stroke behind in third place.
The second half saw Mike gain some ground, as Gavin had two terrible holes and after the eleventh Mike had regaind the lead, which he held to the end. A par on the l ast hole gave Gavin a respectable second, one hsot behind, with Dave third. Mike beat Tom 5 & 3, each player scoring a sandy par on the way. Tony had a high scoring round but made a good start on the Low Score contest with a par and a birdie on his way home. WIth the best score being net five-over, Ruislip did not turn out to be the push-over that some had expected.
