THE POLISH BUILDERS PROVED TO BE A FALSE ECONOMY
Yet another week with some tight scoring for the boys and some strong second-half performances taking the spoils. For a long while, Mike was in the driving seat, leading at the turn with a cool 19 points and three pars. Tom also looked good with 17 points good enough for a three-hole lead over Dave. Con was bravely taking on Tony and Gavin, giving them a total of 17 strokes. Gavin was having a nightmare round and out of it at six down at the turn, but Tony was hanging on, level with Con, each in third place on 14 points. The second half saw a magnificent turnaround as Con and Tom fought off a strong challenge from their opponents. With six to go Dave had only managed to pull back one shot, whilst Tony and Con were still all square. It was the last four holes that made all the difference. Tony and Dave, each parred 14,16 and 17. For Dave, it meant a big hop to a two-point lead in the Low Score and level with one to go. For Tony, it meant a two-and-one victory over Con. With four players within a point of each other, the last hole was a real thriller. Mike hit a ditch and dropped one, Tom picked up and Tony made use of his extra shot to take the tournament from Dave by a mere point, scoring 97, his best of the year.
