GAVIN WAS IN A STATE OF SHOCK!
Mike's 55 foot putt on 17 stunned Gavin so much that he didn't notice he'd won the Routemaster Trophy
As another icon fades into distant memory, Fort Baqxter mourned the passing of the Routemaster with an "On The Buses" monthly medal. As is so often the case, it was Alan who set the pace as he fought a hard matchplay with Dave. Unfortunately neither player noticed that thy had already played their second round match, thus rendering the match null and void. However, they were still eligible for the monthly medal and it was Tom, who looked to be the toughest challenger. A par on two edged him one ahead of Alan, who came back strong with pars on five and seven. Mike was out of it with three blobs and a par on the first four, buit he somehow managed to keep edging ahead of Gavin in their match. In the meantime, Geoff was seeing off russell, still rusty from his lay-off. Nice pars from both Gavin and Mike, reflected the close nature of their match, but then Gavin exploded with a terrific par on twelve to lead the tournament, but he was still, only able to level with Mike in their match. By this time, Geoff had sown up a 7 & 8 victory against Russell and was only a couple off the lead. Unfortunately, with the pressure off, he started to fade from contention.
With Mike slip[ping up on fifteen, Gavin was level in their match and there was a three-way tie for the tournament lead between Gavin, Tom and Alan. Great shots to the green from Mike and Gavin, but only Mike converted to par, he was now one up, but Gavin was leading the Routemaster Monthly Medal. Mike in the ditch on the penultimate and it was surely going to a last-hole shoot out. Suddenly a 55 foot putt stunned Gavin, who could only three-putt to lose the match. Cries of "I hate you Butler!" resounded round the course as gavin staggered to the last. Finally, it was Gavin's extra shot on sixteen that gave him the win, as the three contenders recorded identical gross scores over the last three holes.
With the tenth still evading Alan and Mike leading the Stableford by a mere point, it looks like an exciting climax to the season for next Saturday's Christmas Classic.
