CATHERINE'S REIGN AS LADY CHAMPION WENT UNCHALLENGED
Just three Baxter boys turned out at Ruislip as some would not brave the rain and the rest were in the CenterParc Challenge. After the frost of previous weeks, getting used to the squelchy conditions meant Alan, Gavin and Geoff only managed to score one point between them over the first two holes and racked up 46 shots. On the 3rd Hole, the receptive green helped Alan to birdie and Gavin to par to halve the hole.  Gavin was taking full advantage of his 9 shots on handicap and by the 6th Hole was five up despite only winning one hole outright. Alan pulled one back on the 8th Hole with a par after Gavin’s "Adolf Hitler" for a six. On the 9th Hole, Gavin’s "Sally Gunnel" from the tee and a long chip-in for birdie meant Gavin was still on a roll and back to five up at the turn with 20 points.
Alan pulled one back on the 10th and halved holes after that brought an exciting match to an end after the 14th Hole with Gavin winning 5 and 4.
Gavin continued his good round to finish with 39 points despite two blobs. Could the secret of Gavin’s return to form have anything to do with using Tom’s clubs?
Low Score Update
Alan needs the 10thHole to complete his Low Score and reached the greenside bunker in three. His bunker shot when straight in the hole for a technical birdie - it was a pity it was a spare hole not the hole with the flag!  By the end of the round Gavin had improved his Low Score total by 6 and Geoff by 2.
Meanwhile over at CenterParks...
Another thrilling contest that went to the wire. Last year's ended in a tie between Mike & Tony, each scoring 66. This year, it was the turn of Dave & Con, who each went two better for a 64 tie, one short of Dave's record 63. With Tony missing his trusy 9 iron, his back was against the wall, as he scored a couple of fives and sixes, by the end of day one he was struggling and, in spite of a run of three pars in a row, he could find no way back on day two. Mike, also suffered from the odd wild shot, and three fives saw him fighting to keep up with Dave and Con, who only managed one five between them. However, eight pars and a birdie saw him two behind the lead with a hole to go. Dave, with nine pars and nine bogies, was a picture of consistency and lead to the sixteenth. Con was always just behind and starting to edge alongside on day two, but a magnificent par on the water hole put him ahead by one. Sadly, his designer sunglasses dangling around his neck put him off balance as he three putted the seventeenth. His fellow players comiserated with him and chocked back their emotions as they went to the last.
It was a fantastic shot from Con and a birdie chance, but Mike landed inside and could tie with a two. Dave was also close, but did a bad chip and bogied, Con parred to tie and Mike ended a shot back, as he missed birdie by inches. Another sensational contest and the boys strolled off happily to their haggis breakfast.
Catherine retained her Ladies Trophy with a sytlish performance on Saturday, sadly injuries and hangovers saw off any opposition, as she had to play against Slogger Knappett in an exhibition match.
