Are the Baxter boys past it? That was the question on everybody's lips on Saturday, as young Tom romped to a fifteen-stroke drubbing of the old guard. With the absence of the only members of Fort Baxter claiming to posess even a drop of young blood, it was up to the old-geezer section of the club to play catch-up as Tom got off to another flyer. However, this week there were no problems for Tom as he scored six pars and leaped to the top of the Stableford board with a stunning 41 points.
The only consolation for the old-timers was Gavin showing a steady return to form with 5 pars. Unfortunately, this was matched by 6 blobs, but as the injury heals we could be looking at a solid Autumn. Geoff suffered another second-half collapse in his game with Tony whose three par streak on the back nine made up for a three-score total on the outward journey.
With a full turnout expected for the October medal on Saturday and with a two-stroke cut for Tom, it could be a return to the Fort Baxter of old, although William Hill has reported an absence of enthusiasm even at the odds of 6-1.
