ALAN AND DAVE MAKE IT A THREE-HORSE RACE
DAVE GOES ON THE RAMPAGE WITH A 40 POINTER

LADBROKES REPORT TAKING NO BETS ON AL FINISHING THE MARATHON

After three holes, there was no way that one could have predicted the outcome of Saturday's Stableford. Mike had recovered from his usual wayward first drive into the trees and scored a point followed by two good pars. Dave had parred first with a great pitch and put to recover from a drop, but then scored 12 over the next two. Geoff was hitting the ball well, but couldn't buy a put. Al was steady with a par three keeping him on handicap. Gavin and Tony were shaky bringing up the rear.

Suddenly, Dave and Al went on the rampage, each finishing the first nine with three pars on the trot. Al was on handicap, Dave was three under and Gavin had moved in to second place just ahead of Al. Mike was disintegrating fast but still managing to keep ahead of Geoff.

The second half saw the six Baxter boys take 41 shots between them for the par five, which only yielded three points total. Al did a great chip in for par on the eleventh and the rear enders all saw a glimmer of hope with pars. Geoff then came back into the picture with a four pointer onthe next, but it was the mighty par three 14th that saw Dave stamp his authority with a fantastic birdie. A mere seven on the par five gave Gavin some hope and with Gavin and Al parring the next, he looked beatable. However, pars for the top two saw it finish with Dave on 40, four aheqad of Gavin and Al.

 

Geoff made a creditable 32 points with a good second half, but his lead inthe Stableford had been cut to nothing, as Dave pulled alongside and Al to withhin two. With Dave sitting on 30 for his fifth score, he looks like the one to beat, but anything could happen with three weeks to go!
