- The first nine holes of the Fort Baxter Silver Jubilee
Salute to Punk saw the boys trying
- their best to be Johnny Rotten by notching up as many triple
bogies as possible. It was Geoff who
- played the Malcoom McClaren card by pulling all the strings
and completely dominating the opening
- holes. Tony was unstoppable, as far as the Johnny Rotten
award was concerned. He scored a totally
- rotten 20 for the first two, opening up a nine point gap
behind Geoff.
- By the end of the first five, Geoff was six shots clear of
the field and it looked as if it was another Dyke
- one-two. However, a nine on the next signalled a charge from
Mike, who was now tied with Al a mere
- four shots adrift.
- The halfway stage was reached with Geoff three ahead of Al,
who was one ahead of Mike. But now it
- was Mike's turn as he opened the second half with par-bogie-bogie-par
to come within one of the lead.
- Alan was a further three behind.
- A hole to go and there was only one shot between the leaders.
The tension was too much and they both
- hit balls into the lateral hazzard of the par three. After
taking drops, they both hit amazing 60 yard chips
- under the branches of the trees, right up to the hole. It
was Mike who sank his put to tie the match.
- An amazing contest won by Geoff on countback.
