- ALAN GIVES ANOTHER
SECOND HALF DEMONSTRATION

- For the second week in a row, Alan put in a great second
half, but this time it payed of with a victory in the Matchplay
against Mike, although a stumple on the 10th cost him the record
in a great low-score threesome, as Dave and Mike also dipped
sub-90. Level for the first five, but a chip in for bogie on
six and a superb save from the woods for par on the eighth gave
a two hole swing to Mike. Alan's putting had shown some flair,
but a great par put on nine put him back in contention. He had
his nightmare hole on ten and faced eight holes with a deficit
of two. Honours even on eleven and then he had a monster put
for par after going in the sand. Another par on the next was
matched by Mike, but a fantastic par on the difficult 14th put
the game all-square. This remained the position on the next,
but another par, whilst Mike three putted gave Alan the advantage
with two to go. It was now Mike's turn for a horror-hole and
the game was sewn up two and one. Mike screwed up his drive on
the last, but did a superb downhill-chip over the fence to save
face with a good bogie on last. Great scores of 84 and 87, but
the other member of the threesome was not to be outdone. Dave
started below par with only three points on the first three holes.
However, his birdie on four signalled a charge of 34 points over
fifteen holes to finish with the second best score and a handicap
cut.
