Mike and Geoff win five and four

After seven months of thrashing around in the Perivale mud, the Baxter boys found it tough to get to grips with near-perfect conditions. Plenty of power off the tees sent the ball soaring, but oftne in the wrong direction. Many of the holes punished reckless play and the Tunisians made quite a few dinars trading in brand new Penns and top-grade 'Nevada Bob' Lakes.

The sand also proved to be a challenge....... although the boys were capable of blasting the ball out of the fairway bunkers, they were getting the same results from around the green, where a more subtle approach was warranted. Mike suffered particularly badly all weekend where he managed to knock up a personal record for traps visited.

Dave was still suffering from a Chamonix yodelling incident and struggled to get in the points, as did Steve who needed to find a way to harness his undoubted power. He was well out of the points until the last two holes where he knocked up double birdies and signalled his intention to challenge over the next two days.

Geoff was striking the ball well at times, but displayed his erratic streak on a number of occasions, thus hampering his score. However, he teamed together positively with Mike and managed to hit the good ones when it mattered. He delivered the knock-out blow on the 14th to ensure victory, but then slumped as the adrenalin-high wore off.
