The closest championship yet, with 2 strokes separating the first three. Dave took an early lead, but Mike hit a great 8 iron to the green and then putted out for birdie on the 5th to take over. He then scored a three pointer to hold his lead. Geoff had some great holes but the bunkers took their toll especially on four and seven. Take out those two holes and he would have won by three!!
Mike was looking good on seven, but the big bunkers killed him and he blobbed. At the turn, Dave and Al lead by one. Everyone was determined to avoid the previous day's blob on ten, but Al screwed up his chip and gave Dave a two stroke lead. The 12th saw the shot of the tour. Geoff had been struggling and was 60 yards away in the rough for four. Amazingly, he pitched in for a nice five, one better than the others.
With Dave losing his ball in the rough and Mike having another adventure in the bunker, the Bruvs shot a couple of pars. Geoff was now leading on Stableford. However, the Colonel Hall is all about scratch scores and Alan was now up with Dave. On the easy 14th Al was almost on the green for one. Unfortunately, he had a nightmare chip and owned up to a double kiss. He still tied the hole with Dave, but then lost a ball and couldn't do a thing right on the next. Dave now had a good lead with three to go.
Mike had another bunker nightmare on the par three, but came back strong on the next hole. Al found water on seventeen and there was now a great finish waiting. Dave was three ahead of Mike and Al in the championship and had sewn up the overall ratings. Mike was now level with Al on the overall, but with an extra shot on the hole, they were also level in the championship. Geoff was a point ahead of Mike for the afternoon's Stableford.
Everyone played well and made the green in three. Unfortunately, Geoff's shot bounced off. Mike got a nice three point five and Alan had a big put for five to stay level. Dave shot a six, but was safe. Geoff recovered from his bounce, but his six only gave him a tie for the Stableford. In the end, it was a fantastic afternoon's golf and a fitting end to a superb tour.
