GEOFF'S NEW CROCODILE SKIN STAND-BAG DIDN'T INCLUDE A STRAP
Perfect condition, seven pars and three birdies over the first four holes and it looked like another sensational day's golf for Fort Baxter. With the Bruvs covering their absence over the coming weeks, there were a few double matches being played and the tension was almost unbearable, as Mike and Alan looked to be the early form guys.With five holes down, Alan was up three in both of his matches, whilst Mike was two up against Russ and three up against Geoff. Dave was level with Geoff, after having birdied the first. With most players struggling on the sixth, Geoff made his move - a cool two points followed by three pars in a row over the most difficult part of the course. Mike's blob on eight surrendered the lead, but par on the next gave him his second addition to the Low Score Competition and ensured that he turned on an impressive 19 points. However, this only gave him third place behind Geoff on 21 and Russell on 20. Dave was miffed at holding handicap, whilst only standing fourth. Gavin, a mere two off handicap was in last place, such was the standard of play over the first half of the course.
Starting back, Mike hit blob followed by double-bogie to fall way out of contention, as Geoff and Russelll charged on with three strokes better than handicap. Geoff had taken five holes out of the last seven against Mike to go two up and was keeping Dave at arms length by three. After twelve holes, Russell was sharing the lead with Dave and Geoff, but was still one down on Mike. In the meantime, Alan had fallen badly after a series of blobs. He was one behind Gavin and three down on Tom. Over the next few holes, it was Mike and Alan who made the pace, with three pars each. Fourteen points for five holes gave Mike yet amnother Low Score hole and put him well in contention. With a hole to go, Geoff was leading the competition with 37 points with Dave and Mike a point behind. Three matches were still alive. Alan was one up against Gavin and one behind Tom. Mike was one ahead of Geoff. Gavin scored two points on the last. Dave scored one point to maintain a great blobless run, but they were the only points. Three eights and a pair of sevens was a sad end to a great days golf. Twenty five pars and three birdies, an average of 34 points, three sub-90s, two handicap cuts and three games going to the wire must rank this as one of Fort Baxter's best days ever. Excellent!
