TOM'S STINT AS A GLENN FORD JUNIOR SMOKER DIDN'T HARM HIS GOLF
Bouncing back from his recent sub-20 game, Tom was up for the Glenn Ford Medmorial/Monthly Medal and ready to move up two places in the final matchplay event. A stunning birdie on the first put him one up against Con in the match, but that was matched by his opponent's birdie on the next. It looked to be shaping up to be a classic. Unfortunately, Comn was unable to maintain his form and slid out of contention with a paltry 22 pointer. However, he managed to bring hi low score down considerably and, with a month to go, is now a strong contender for the title. Tom charged on to lead the trophy almost from beginning to end. His only challenge coming from Mike, who spurred on by a blobless run, matched him stroke-for-stroke from four to eight. In fact, eleven points from four holes, he took the lead on the seventh, missing birdie by a whisker. The run came to an end on the next, but with 37 holes recorded, he overtook Gavin in the table. A ghastly nine on the next signalled a reversal of form for Mike, who challenged for second for a while, but was out of the game by fourteen. As Tom went on to beat Con 6 & 4, Dave was on his way to a 5&3 victory over Alan. From being out of contention at the halfway with net 41, he scored a stunning net 31 on the way back to secure second place. Geoff and Russ were locked in an epic battle that went to the wire. Geoff started badly with an eight and a nine on the first three holes, but fought back to take the lead on six. Russ was ahead again on eight, but then it was all square with three to go. Time and again, Geoff had the advantage, which was squandered on the greens. On the last hole, Geoff surrendered the match with a painfull nine. With four weeks to go, Tom looks to be the man on form, with a blobless round to carry forward and a real chance of challeging for the two main trophies.

Somehow, we each need to play 16 matches in 17 weeks, so let's try to stick to the schedule. There will have to be a few double-ups, no doubt.
