THERE WAS THE USUAL VICTORY PARADE IN THE TOWN SQUARE
It was a busy week for Fort Baxter, as the Menorcan Open competed against the Saturday Stableford. In Menorca, Dave mastered the hire clubs from the start and shot into a handy lead over the first two holes. Mike and Tony gamely tried to catch up, but with three pars on his card Dave held the lead with 97 strokes to Mike's 101. The most excitement came on the seventeenth, which needed a full three iron to cary the water on to the difficult par three. All three players managed to get to within ten feet of the hole, just missing their birdie putts. Dave was awarded the freedom of the town and celebrated with a few vodkas and a gallop through the crowd. Battered and bruised, he awoke the next morning in a strange stable next to a horse that was smoking a cigarette and offering a satisfied smile.
Back at Uxbridge, Russell won a thrilling contest in which Alan and Gavin pushed him all the way to the tenth, where he piled on the pressure to win with another 36 pointer. An excellent par on the ninth for Gavin and par on the last for Alan left them happy with their days work. Al is now clear leader in the Low Score contest, but there is a three-way tie for second place.
