SOMEHOW THE BAXTERS WERE GETTING INTO TOM'S HEAD
A sensational August Medal, with the first three players netting under seventy and scoring 21 pars between them. After dominating for the last few weeks, Russell found that his new handicap was just too tough to match the firepower of a resurgent trio of Tom, Alan and Geoff. However, with four holes to go, he was just one off the pace. Geoff and Tom had battled hard throughout the day, to finish tied in their match and tied in the medal. Tom won on countback, after parring four holes in a row to take the lead, going in to the last. Alan, also had a huge finish, coming from fifth place to third over the last six holes, parring four holes on the way. Geoff had a good start to the day, going bogie-par-par, but Mike's birdie on four saw him take the lead briefly before his form deserted him. Yet anotherr par from Geoff on the hardest hole put him in the lead before slumping to third over the next few holes. A third par from Tom on seven put him ahead and there he stayed, as Geoff frustratingly tried to peg him back. In the end, it was a deserved victory for the kid in what was one of the best fought medals ever.
