THE PRIZES WERE BEGINNING TO MOUNT UP FOR RUSS AND IT WAS GOING TO BE A HARD NIGHT
Once again, there was no stopping Russ, as he stormed to a superb 40 point score in the Mike Hammer Plate. Recovering from a nill point start, he hit four three-pointers before steadying with two holes on handicap. He then, outrageously parred the eighhth for four points and hit three points on the ninth for an outward score of 23 points. On the way home, he picked up a mere 18 points to take the 'Hammer' from Gavin who continued his return to form with a fine 35 points. A blob on the fourth which saw him hand over his early lead and a dropped point on the last contributed to just the one shot off handicap. In third place was Mike, who had another thrilling match with Tom. Never more than a hole in it until the 16th and with nine of those holes level, the game hung on the 17th. Mike leading, went out of bounds, giving Tom a great chance to square the match. Unfortunately, Tom also went O.B. and lost the hole with eight shots to Mike's seven.
With Con and Mike confirming their positions in the matchplay, the interest now switches to the third-place spot. Alan looks secure with one match left, but Geoff and Tom could both spring surprizes with their games in hand.
