SOMEHOW RUSS KNEW THAT VICTORY WAS IN THE BAG
It was all about Russ, Con and Tony, as they battled it out for the final victory of the season. A solid start from Russ, saw him leap ahead of handicap. In spite of a blob on nine, he turned one aheadof Geoff, whose good start faltered on the second half. Con bogied his target low score hole at the fourth. Con and Tony were just one shot behind handicap at the turn. Al won the replay hole against Mike, whose eight iron for par was too ambitious. Three out of the bunker then an almighty shank at the next saw mike with two eights and no way back in the tournament. Dave went on to win this match 3&2.
Another blob on the eleventh put Russ on even handicap, but Tony was now alongside, Con was two back. Finally parring the next, Con secured victory in the low score contest, with Mike hitting birdie on his target seven to finish one stroke behind. Tom was settling down, whilst Alan staggered over the back nine to lose their match by one. Geoff went down to Con, although he managed to beat Gavin by one. The Spring Stableford was now down to Con staying ahead of Geoff, which he managed to do with a fine 35 pointer. Three pars and five bogies over the last eight, displayed some fine form, but it was not enough to deny Russ a well-deserved 36 point victory and fourth place in the Stableford. A good finish for Russ over the last few weeks, making him the big threat for the Summer. With Con absent for quite a few weeks and a challenging Uxbridge course to face, the overall standings could change considerably. Everything is up for grabs guaranteeing a fine turnout next Saturday.
