THE BAXTER GANG WAS NOT ALWAYS WILLING TO HAND OVER THE PRIZE
With Dave going for a fifth consecutive medal, Con seeing a huge swing back to form and Geoff coming back refreshed from his trip across the Channel, it was looking to be an exciting game. However, only Geoff could display good Summer form, as he charged into the lead with twelve points on the first five holes. This meant a net score of two under par and a lead of two from Mike. With a couple of shots dropped on the last two, Mike fell away at the turn and it was Geoff all the way with a splendid net 69. Only the one blob, and a big one at that, when he lost a ball to the ditch and came away with a nine. Mike was also on a blobless run, but a lost ball on thirteen blew that away. Only the four pars between them, but coupled with another 23 bogies, both players played solid golf and deserved first and second places. Dave's round was a little less even, but four pars helped to make up ground lost to seven doubles or more.
In the matchplay, only Con had a close victory, as he went into the last three all square with Tom. In spite of some massive driving, Tom lost out due to inconsitency.
