TONY WAS SLAUGHTERING THE OPPOSITION, WHEN......
a sudden flashback to Brenda's Nine-Holer destroyed his concentration
With the 2006 Matchplay well under way, returned from a long lay-off needing to win his last two matches in order to take the trophy. Mike played Tony for their second match of the new season. With a biting wind in their faces, the boys struggled to find any form. Only Tony was able to make a show, as he tunred in seventeen points and three holes up on Mike. Geoff was second in thirteen points and Dave was coming from behind to lead Tom by one.
Two pars from Tony and, with seven to go, he was five holes up on Mike and six strokes ahead of the field. The next two saw Tony deop a shot, but he was now dormi five and five shots ahead of Geoff in second. Dave and Mike needed to catch up seven strokes in the Stableford. It was at this point that concentration wavered. Two blobs in a row and Mike was still in the match. However, a superb par on sixteen and Tony had sealed his win. Meanwhile, Dave had sealedhis win over Tom and Mike could not lose the matchplay trophy. Things looked good for Tony in the Stableford, but a double-blob finish enabled Dave to finish wiothin one, after parring seventeen and Mike overhauled Geoff for third, when he parred the last. Alan finally won the Low Score and Dave's great par on the second hardest hole moved him into second.
