WHAT WITH THE FLOODLIGHTS AND THE EXCITEMENT...
the boys took some time to prize Mike off the chair
With the weather changiing from cold and frosty to cold and muddy, it was anybody's game on Saturday, as Fort Baxter challenged for the John Profumo Memorial Shield. After an opening blob, Geoff scampered away with a stunning five-pointer on two. With his old skill with the woods coming back to him, he looked to be unstoppable. Mike kept him under pressure in their match, as the honours went back and forth. A couple of pars by Mike, going in to the turn, turned on the screw and Geoff was two down, although still sharing the overall lead in the competition. Meanwhile, Dave and Alan were just one behind, with Alan putting the squeeze on Tony. Con was also close, as he took a hal-way lead of five over Gavin. The second half saw Alan edge up to take a third share of the lead, yet he failed to put the seal on the low-score whilst Mike and Geoff both parred. A five by Mike nudged him ahead on the next, but he followed this with a blob, as Geoff tied the lead.
With four to go it was tie between Mike and the bruvs, but Geoff was now struggling and gave his match to Mike on sixteen. Con also tied up his match, whilst Al;an took a hole more to polish off Tony. Geoff was now completely adrift and didn't score another point, whilst Alan took the overalll lead with two to go. He lost a stroke on the next and it was all square. Suddenly a big blob for Al, a bogie for MIke and then a stunning par for Dave, who ended the round with a tie. Great drama, but Mike won on countback and was carried back to the Fort Baxter flat for frolics with some ladies of the night, especially hired for the occasion. Unfortunately for Mike, the joy of victory was short-lived, as the resulting photos landed in Pam's email box the very next morning!
