THE BAXTER BOYS WERE LEFT REELING AS DAVE WALKED OFF WITH THE PRIZE
Another freezing day and the ball was bouncing all over the place. Mike's first shot just managed to clear the ditch and then rolled all the way to the edge of the next ditch. The hardest hole saw two pars and four bogies. Clearly, it was a day when a good straight shot and a kind bounce could lead to great scoring. However, tackling the bounce was the key and only one player held it. Dave, going for his third medal in a row, scored a superb blobless net 64 to win by a clear 11 shots. Possibly the biggest victory margin ever. Seven pars and seven bogies, placed him on top of the Stableford leader board, with just three weeks to go. It also put him well clear in the averages chart, giving an early indication of a future 'Man of the Year'.
The only other player to make a challenge was Tony, who was striking the ball well and who went out dead on handicap. Unfortunately, when he blobbed, he blobbed big time. A nine on the par-three eleventh all but sunk his chances and a tough spell in a bunker on seventeen ensured that he coul only muster a net 75. Hoever, a cool 34 points did his Stableford chances a power of good. Alan managed four pars, including the hardest hole, but three eights did him no good at all. Mike looked to be coming back into the game at the half way, but slumped badly on the second half, whilst Gavin came back stronger to finish third.
