CON MADE IT TO THE TOP THE HARD WAY!
Rivals were always dispatched with ruthless efficiency
With howling, sub-zero winds, it was always going to be 'Testosterone City' for the men and electronic hand-warmers for the nancy-boys. And so it proved, as Con shrugged off a blobby beginning with a nice par on two, which lead him to an easy victory over Geoff in his match. However, there was still the Stableford and the "Man Of The Year' contests to fight for and Con soon went into a solid lead, that was only challenged by Tony who was slugging it out against Alan.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the contest was early in the second half. Mike and Gavin hit the turn just a couple of shots behnd the leader, but then they only managed three points between them on the next two holes. Con now had a four point lead with four players in second place. Mike had fallen back a point and Geoff was hitting the skids. With Alan and Tony the only players to score two on the next and five players blobbing on the easiest hole, things were getting interesting. Con was two ahead with Mike and Alan now challenging. Five strokes for Con on the par-three, whilst Tony hit a four-pointer meant that these two were sharing the lead with Mike and Alan a stroke behind. Unfortunately Tony blobbed the next and Con was the only player to get two points.
A lost ball for Con on the next made things exciting, but Mike found it just in time for Con to pitch to within inches of the hole for par. Not to be out-done, Mike and Alan also made their three points. A fantastic drive by Mike looked like it was going to go to the wire, but an extreme shank gave him a big blob. Alan also blobbed, whilst Con parred. It was all over bar the shouting, although Mike scored another par on the last, whilst Con waved to the crowd as he hit a finishing hat-trick. With four weeks to go, it looks like it could be anybody's.
