DAVE HAD SPENT TOO LONG IN THE WILDERNESS
..the jungle had its merits but there was no thrill as sweet as a Saturday morning Ruislip victory
A steady climb back to form for Dave through December and then pow! he kicks the new year off with a resounding win in the Medal. By contrast, Mike's steady play, throughout the second half of the year, evaporated as he slumped to a six-blob disaster. Everyone else was showing some good form and managed to get on the leader board at some stage.
With a third of the game gone, Dave shared a three-way tie with Alan and Gavin, but two pars in a row sent him on his way to a seven stroke victory. The main focus was the three-way match against Con. As usual, he got iff to a poor start, going four down to Alan after four holes. However, he fought back and put t he opposition under pressure. At the half-way stage, he leveled with Alan and was just one down on Tony and Tom. By the twelfth, he was level in two matches and well on his way to a 5&3 victory agaiinst Tony. It was another last-hole nail-biter, when he stepped up one ahead of Tom and level with Alan. In true championship style, he closed out with a par to make a clean sweep of his matches. His net 77 only put him fourth, as Alan and Gavin tied for second, one stroke ahead.
