MIKE'S PATIENT CULTIVATION OF THE VARDON WHISKERS PAID OFF
Mike is overjoyed at fabulous victory
A start-to-finish victory for Mike, who finally put a good round together, after a two-month run of second place finishes. With no blobs on his card and a mere three double bogies, he played the most consistent golf of the day to crush Geoff in their match and to sneak ahead of Tom in the Stableford. With 34 points on their cards, both Tom & Tony would be pleased with their day, especially as they came out top in a twin-assault on Con in the matchplay.
Con was going well for the first part of the course, keeping each opponent at bay, but he played some scrappy golf in the middle of the match and went down 3&2 in both matches. Alan saw off Dave, who suffered from some patchy form, but overall it was Mike's 40 points that stole the day. Four pars and a birdie contributed to a fine score, but so did the absence of blobs. Alan made six pars, but a tougher handicap and three blobs left him laying in fourth place.
