SOME SAID THAT GAVIN'S METHODS WERE TOO TOUGH
Tom developed nerves of steel, whilst watching his father practise
It was Tony, yet again leading the way, as the Baxters toughed it out on a challenging November morning for the monthly medal. However, as he past the half way in steady net par golf, the rest of the field were hanging on to a slim hope of medal glory, Dave was only one hole down in a tight match and the two bruvs were slugging it out in a fierce contest in which Al was only one hole up, in spite of scoring three pars in a row, Mike and Tom were not in a match and were able to concentrate on medal play and mount a challenge over the second half.
Geoff was the only one to par ten, which brought him level with Al, who was in the middle of a mediocre patch and starting to drop points. However, a fantastic chip-in on the second hardest hole gave Alan a birdie and a one hole lead over Geoff, who had just been served an ASGO for club abuse on the eleventh for club abuse. Geoff had a great chance to lovel on the thirteenth, when Alan scored triple bogie. Just fifty feet from the hole in two, it was looking good, but somehow, he managed to take another five to stay one back. Dave took his chances on this hole and edged past Tony for the first time in their match. By this time, Tom had sneaked into the lead, where he stayed until the end, winning in a net 70. It was Alan and Mike who mounted the only challenge over the final holes. Al covered the last four holes in even par, whilst Mike made a final show with two pars and two bogies to tie him for yet another second place. Geoff saw his chances shattered with a poor drive on seventeen, where he was served another ASGO and lost the match 3&1. Tony slipped to fourth place, but beat Dave 2&1. Overall, it was a great day's golf, with one shot between the top three and 25 pars and two birdies scored. At the end of the day, it was the blobs that made the difference. A blobless round from Tom, helped him defeat Mike, who had just the one. Alan scored seven pars and a birdie, yet could not win, because of three blobs. Dave played some good golf, scoring four pars, but five blobs against Tony's one made all the difference in their match.
