Tom looks on and yearns for the day.....
It was a welcome return to form for Dave, as he made a charge for the Johnny Haynes trophy, whilst trying to break his duck iin the matchplay, but it was Mike who set the pace until he blobbed the eighth, surrendering his lead. Dave finished the half with three pars and a birdie, but then started to struggle. A huge putt for birdie from Mike on eleven drew him level and the two slugged it out util fourteen, when dave dropped back.
Both players managed to win their matches comfortably, but there was an epic encounter between Tom and Geoff. Neither player sparkled during the first half and Geoff was languishing three behind Tom at the turn. Suddenly it all started to happen. Nine pars between them , over the second half, with Geoff leveling at sixteen with three in a row. Two holes to go and it was all square, whilst Mike was leading the Johnny Haynes by one from Tom and Dave. It was now Tom's turn to show what he was made of. He finished par-par to sew up the match and the tournament.
