"GIVE ME THE REASON"
Con plays the Vandross classic as he drowns his sorrows
With three weeks to go, it looks like a two-horse race. Gavin puts in another 35 pointer, which only equals his fifth best this season. Tom edges closer with a two point improvement. Tony, Geoff and Alan also improve but they languish way behind. The Luther looked to be in the clutches of Gavin from the off. Two pars on the outward nine gave him a cool 20 pointer at the turn. With three points over Tom, he looked good for the trophy and for the season. Mike was a miserable six points adrift after eight, but a superb approach on nine hit the flag and remined a mere six inches out. The resulting birdie inspired him to par on the next. A couple of pars from Con, whilst Gavin hit a sorry twelve, meant that there was a three-way tie with Tom a point back. By the thirteenth, Con had a two point lead on the last placed competitor. It was the most open finish ever! The next par three was the turning point. Con hit a six and never recovered, whilst Gavin's par gave him fourpoints and the lead. A par from Mike on the next and then a birdie from Tom, really raised the temperature. Cashing in on his extra point on the penultimate hole, Gavin was now one clear. All three players parred the last to make it one of the most thrilling contests ever. Alan was also in the hunt, but his five finish saw off his hopes, leaving him with just the dream of the Low Score.
