Tired and emotional, Mike downs a few at his club
As Con took on his remaining opponents, in the Matchplay, Mike and Gavin raced towards the turn. They each built up superb scores of 23 points. In spite of this, Mike was one hole down in his match against Alan, who had hit four pars and a birdie. A seven on the fourth meant that Alan was a stroke behind Mike, who turned in 40. Geoff ensured that the Bruvs each hit birdies for the second week running, when he scored three on the ninth.
The second half proved to be a big challenge, as Al lost four in a row to Mike, who had scored 34 points with four to go. He needed a par and three bogies to equal the record. A seven iron to the green could have set up an easy par, but it all went horribly wrong and with two blobs under his belt, he limped home with bogies on the last two.
Although Gavin was unable to keep up his early form, he was still playing to handicap and looked to be sailing towards a 41 pointer. Unfortunately, a seven on the last confined him to a mere 39 points. Eight ahead of the field, what are the chances of being caught this Summer?
