"Do you want me to seduce you Gavin?"
Gavin worries about his future, but hey ... to the victor the spoils
It was 'Big Saturday' at Ruislip and the Matchplay was at stake. Spurred on by the added incentive of winning the Mrs. Robinson trophy the boys slugged it out, but struggled to keep up with Gavin, who got off to a lightening start going three up against Mike after four. At this stage, Alan and Tony were level and Con was a hole up against Tom. A par on five encouraged Mike, who hit another couple going into the turn levelling the match. Alan put the squeeze on Tom with a birdie at seven and a run of five holes in par. Con and Tony were neck and neck, with Con turning one up.
With a blob on ten, Gavin surrendered the advantage to Mike, who took the overall lead. A blob on the easiest hole put them neck and neck again, with the field a little behind. It looked good for Mike, as he went two up with three to play, but Gavin hit two pars to take a clear lead and to tie the match with a hole to go. A great par from Mike gave him the match, but Mrs. Robinson was all Gavin's, as he shot the best score of the day with 25 points.
But the real heat was on in the other matches. A win for Alan would sew up the matchplay and his three-par run put him three up at the eleventh. Tom hit back with one-over par for the next five holes levelling the match. This spurred Alan to back-to back pars to take the title in style. Con beat Tony with three holes to spare, but his fate had been in Tom's hands and he was left with the hope of an outside chance in the remaining competitions.
