Gavin realized that ditching the mandolin was a good move
Windy conditions and erratic play produced a sensational monthly medal, as five players took their turn at the head of the pack. Alan looked to be in charge, as the rest staggered in the early stages. Two outof the bunker on five and an eight on six put him out of the running, as Dave took over. It wasw then Mike's turn, as he hit three pars towards the end of the first nine. Alan had a sensational put out of the bunker on eight to notch up his second birdie of the season and stamp his authority on his game with Con. However, after a twenty foot put for bogie on ten, Mike was looking good. Geoff tied their match with par on eleven, but Mike was three clear of the field.
It was now Mike's turn to explode and 21 shots over the next three holes ensured that he was nowhere, as Geoff an Gavin took the lead. Chipping out of the bushes on the wrong side of the ditch, Geoff scored a sensational five on twelve, followed by a good par. From then on, it was nip and tuck, as Geoff and Gavin battled for the lead. One up with two to go was good enough for a Gavin victory, as Geoff could only tie with a par followed by double bogie. Con fought back against Alan, but went o.b. on the last to concede the tie. Dave and Tom had an interesting match, with Dave going six up after seven holes, Honours were even for the next four, but then Tom couldn't believe his luck as Dave hit five blobs coming back. A ten on fifteen ensured that Tom's revival was stopped in its tracks and Dave won two and one.
