Mike questioned Dave's choice of babes for the victory party
An early start for Fort Baxter and three terrific matches, added spice to the February medal. The three players, relieved of matchplay pressure, ended up taking the first three spots, but in a thrilling contest, with everyone jostling for recognition, right to the end. Once again, it was Mike, showing some sparking form through the first half, with everyone playing catch-up. Chalking up his third 22 pointer, he was two clear of Tom, who had also scored four pars on the way out. More good form was shown by Tony, who was in the lead for the first six, before going through a bad patch, only to bounce back with a birdie on eleven.
Come the fifteenth, Mike's swing went to pieces and he struggled the next three holes, scoring just two points. This gave Tony the lead with a hole to go. A one-stroke advantage on the next hole would give Mike a tie, but Tony the victory on countback! A terrific chip and put gave Mike a par and victory as Tony ducked to a five finish. Solid play from Russ edged him into third place.
Another last hole game for Dave, who beat Tom in matchplay. Geoff blew up on the seventeenth, as he tried to salvage a draw with three holes to go. Gavin declared a wrong handicap for his game with Alan, thus robbing himself of an advantage on seventeen and a hard-fought draw.
