Tom's stint in the Southern Hemisphere seems to have changed him somehow.
The first game of the year and what a corker! Alan continued his fine form and was clearly the man to beat, with two pars and a bogie to open, but Tony and Gavin were also looking good with a four pointer and a five pointer gained on the third. However, gavin's birdie was followed by a dismal nine and, in spite of a great par on six, he was on his way out, as Tom came into the frame with three pars over the last four holes of the first half. A magnificent 41 for the first nine was only good enough for second place, as Alan hit four pars around the turn. A good birdie for Mike on eleven was not good enough to wipe out his disastrous start and it was Alan heading for a record score, as he approached the easiest hole at thirteen. Bogies to the end would have given him a neat 80! However, the unlucky thirteenth took its toll and a nine put him a stroke back iin second place. A god par on fourteen and another to finish, showed the spirit of the man, but slips on fifteen and seventeen, allowed Tom to take control and win on countback. A good round from Russell put him in third.
